Congratulations to David Mackenzie for being selected the Educator of Year 2017
The Rotary Club of Perth had the pleasure and honour of presenting its Educator of Year Award to Mr. David Mackenzie on 8 May 2017, a teacher at St. John Catholic High School. Mr. MacKenzie was nominated by a former recipient of the award and fellow teacher, Mr. Dominic Marando.
Mr. MacKenzie has been teaching at St. John Catholic High School for the past 15 years after coming to us from teaching positions in both British Columbia and Alberta. He is above all else a loving a devoted family man and enjoys every possible moment he can spend with his wife Carol and his three children Rory, Maili and Margaret. He extends more often than not, the same devotion to his co-workers and all students.
Mr. MacKenzie is a mentor, a coach, a teacher, a leader and inspiration to so many. As indicated by his co-worker Dominic Marando, “his work with students who struggle in school has been impressive to watch and his patience and unique charm and sense of humour make his classes an enjoyable and rewarding experience.”
Mr. MacKenzie not only shines in the classroom, but shares his vast experience and leadership skills in coaching various sports which are part of the EOSSAA and OFSAA programs. He has coached basketball, football, hockey, soccer and rugby at SJCHS. He will in fact be coaching seven (7) different teams this school year. Dave also finds time to lend his leadership and skills to sports in the community.
The Rotary Club of Perth is honoured to bestow the Educator of the Year Award to 2017 to Mr. David MacKenzie, a teacher, a leader and inspiration to his co-workers and students St. John Catholic High School. The Club wishes to acknowledge and congratulate all those nominated this year as well all those who make contributions to education in our area.
