NEW – Reporting an Absence Due to Illness
The local health units are requesting that all schools submit information regarding student illness related absences. Therefore, when reporting an absence for your child due to illness, please include details regarding the nature of the illness, such as respiratory (e.g., cough, fever, congestion, runny nose) or enteric (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea). These statistics will be shared with the health unit as part of their illness monitoring process.
Two fact sheets have been created by the health units to share with parents, which are attached at the links below. As this is regular flu season, the health units are encouraging everyone to take the usual measures to reduce the risk of transmission of influenza and other respiratory illnesses, which include:
wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze;
keep frequently touched surfaces clean (i.e., handles, door knobs, arm rests, phones);
if you don’t have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm;
if you are ill, stay home; and
get a yearly influenza vaccination, available from participating pharmacies.
Local area health units are working with partners at the regional, provincial and federal levels to monitor the situation of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus and are prepared to respond to any potential cases in our area, should they occur.
